Not at all. I started when I was 21. Pt. Hariprasad ji started when he was 19. On of my students picked up flute at the age of 68 and by 72 years of age, he was performing in big theatres and all that.
As a matter of fact, I have several students who are above 55. Many students begin learning bansuri in adulthood.
While progress depends on practice time and listening ability, age is never a barrier to musical growth.
You don’t have to start from beginning. You will be allotted a suitable batch where others will be of similar expertise like you. We have special batches for students who have learnt minimum 1.5 years before.
No. Vocal training can be helpful but is not mandatory. I can't sing. Never learnt. At Ragaworld Academy, flute learning begins with developing a strong sense of swara, breath, and listening—essential for all students. Thus singing is not mandatory. But it helps if you are already singing.
Learning Indian classical music is a lifelong journey. Depending on the student’s discipline, consistency, and absorption capacity. Progress is never rushed. It totally depends on how much time you can spend with your flute, along with some other parameters.
Ragaworld Academy offers both offline classes (in Pune) and online learning for students from anywhere actually. From India or any other country. Teaching methods are adapted carefully for the online format without compromising musical depth.
Definitely Yes. Each and every student gets personal attention and training.
Most students attend one structured class per week. Very beginners take 2 classes per week for a month. After that they take 1 class per month. Regular daily riyaaz at home is essential as guided by the Guru. The quality of practice matters a lot than just the number of classes.
If someone wants more classes per week, it is possible if it fits into the schedule.
Beginners are encouraged to practice at least 30–45 minutes daily. Not necessarily continuous 30 minutes. The can practice in 3-4 sets of 10-15 minutes each. As the student progresses, practice time naturally increases. Consistency is valued more than long, irregular sessions.
In one sentence - More the Better.
Although Ragaworld Academy focuses primarily on Hindustani classical music and raga-based learning, we also have modules for learning Film Songs. As classical training enriches all forms of music, film or light music is also part of the structured curriculum.
There are formal exams at the basic levels. These are internal examinations. Passing students get a certificate of merit. Progress is assessed through tone quality, swara clarity, rhythmic stability, and musical understanding. Readiness for the next level is considered the true certification.
Yes. Definitely. Students may be guided towards informal baithaks, internal presentations, or recording projects as and when they are musically ready. It all depends on how a student is ready for a performance. A performance is treated as a natural outcome of learning, not a goal in itself. Milind ji's approximately 10 students are all performing already, making a name for themselves.
Students are guided individually in choosing the correct bansuri based on age, hand size, and comfort. Guidance is provided before purchase to avoid common mistakes.
Typically Beginners are to get a G# Flute and advance students are to get an E flute.
